Autumn 2011

Dear friends,

Here is your Autumn BodyTalk newsletter. I hope you have had a great summer and are benefitting from the productive "back to school" energy in the air. I have had a lovely (although very very wet) August in Denmark with my family, but am also really enjoying being back at the clinic again.

This newsletter includes news and events where the highlights are a talk by John Veltheim, the founder of Bodytalk, on October 18 and my free talk on Tuesday October 4th. I have also included a book recommendation this time and at the end you can read about what Autumn is all about from a Chinese Five Element perspective, and how you can get the best out of this time of year.

John Veltheim is back - this time in London

The founder of BodyTalk, John Veltheim, is coming to the UK again next month and will be giving a public talk on October 18, 7-9pm at UCL on Gower Street. He is one of the most impressive people I have met in my life and he is also an entertaining speaker, so do come along. He will most likely also do a demonstration BodyTalk session on someone from the audience at the end of the talk, so this could be you getting a treatment from one of the top health care practitioners in the world who otherwise has a several year long waiting list. Tickets are £15. More

Free Intro Talk at the Clinic

On Tuesday October 4 I will be giving a free talk about BodyTalk at the BodyMatters Clinic in Belsize Village at 7.30-8.30pm. I will explain what BodyTalk is all about, how it can help people. There is also a practical part where I will teach the cortices technique, a powerful brain balancing technique for people to use on themselves or their loved ones, as well as give a demonstration session. If you know any one that could be interested please invite them along - friends, neighbours, colleagues and family members. Contact the clinic on 020 7419 7900 to book a space.

The Yoga Show

I'm organising a group of colleagues at a stand at this year's Yoga Show in London's Olympia the last weekend of October. We will be giving short intro BodyTalk sessions to visitors, my colleague Eloise Ansell will give a lecture about BodyTalk Access and I will be doing two workshops for children and parents about brain development.

I have practiced yoga for 17 years myself and BodyTalk, with its roots in the same Advaita Vedanta philosophy as yoga, seem to really speak to the yoga teachers I have had as clients, so I am excited about representing BodyTalk at this show. There is an impressive line up of lectures, yoga classes and interesting stands so if you are into yoga or just considering dipping your toes I can't think of a better pond. We will be at stand nr. F35. Click here for visiting info. I have a few tickets to give out, so let me know if you are interested.

Kids Company

I have picked up my voluntary work at Kids Company again after the holidays working with vulnerable children and parents as well as staff at Kids Company at The Treehouse. The Treehouse in Kilburn is a lovely colourful house primarily funded by Coldplay (- apparently they drop by and play every now and again) where Kids Company teaches children who have been expelled from all other schools, run therapy sessions and after school clubs. They also have a couple of rooms for complementary therapies where I work once a fortnight alongside acupuncturists, massage therapists etc.

I feel blessed to be able to watch the remarkable transformations going on in the families after their BodyTalk sessions. Kids Company works with thousands of volunteers across London, so if you ever considered doing some voluntary work or looking to support a charity in another capacity I can highly recommend this organisation.

Embracing vulnerability - An inspiring read and talk

Brené Brown is a smart and funny academic who studies human connections. Through collecting stories from thousands of people she uncovers how embracing our vulnerability will enhance the connections we have with ourselves and each other and it will allow us to lead a more wholehearted life. Her book "The gifts of Imperfection - Let go of Who You Think You're Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are" is simply brilliant and full of insights and practical guidelines of how to live your life more from your heart.

I cannot do her work justice in these few lines, but watch for yourself and I'm sure you will see why I find her worth mentioning. Click here to watch her TED talk. Check out her blog here.

Autumn clear out - mind, body and garden shed

The trees are changing colour - nature is putting on the final grand finale to mark the end of a growth period before shedding the leaves to make space for new ones next year. Let yourself be inspired by seeing what the trees are doing: This is the optimal season for us all to get rid of things we don't need. Go on, go through your cupboards, desks, sheds and medicine cabinets and clear out what you don't need and donate, sell, chuck and recycle.

Autumn marks the end of a growing season and it is a time to turn inwards and do the mental inventory too: examining attitudes, belief systems, emotions and charged memories - "Do I really need to hold on to the anger from when x did x to me?" It is time to let go of what you don't need to hold on to anymore. It is of course rarely as easy as just deciding to let go, but perhaps something really is ready to go.

In terms of our bodies the headline acts for the Metal element (Autumn) are the Lungs and the Large Intestines. They are both about eliminating waste (from the digestive or respiratoral system) and letting go. This makes Autumn a good time to give some attention to your digestion (have a colonic, eat more fibers, have a BodyTalk session) and to focus on your breathing - do some pranayama or go for a walk and breath in some fresh crisp autumn air (if you can find any here in London).

The emotional catalyst for all the levels of clear outs is Grief. Working through Grief cleanses us of what is no longer needed in our lives, and allows us to move on.

You will find that these clear out processes will complement each other. Having a cupboard clearout will help you with mental clutter too and may also clear up your constipation. And visa versa.

While I can't help you directly with your cupboards and your sheds I certainly can on the mental, emotional and physiological front. Autumn returns us to our essence, moves us to eliminate what we no longer need to reveal what is most precious in our lives, and I'd love to help you with that.

Enjoy our Indian summer and I'll see you at the clinic.

With love,

Britt X

Summer 2011

Dear friends,

I hope you are enjoying the summer so far. This warm season provides a great opportunity for me to mention my number two health tips of all times (number one of course being the BodyTalk technique of balancing your cortices): Reconnect with the nurturing energy field of the Earth by walking barefoot! Modern lifestyle has to a large degree disconnected us from the energy of the Earth, and that makes us more prone to stress and ill health. You can buy fancy mats and sheets to Earth you (a technology also used by top performers such as Lance Armstrong), and they are great, but while the weather is warm why not go for the low tech and free version: just get your shoes/sandals and socks off and walk barefoot in the park, the garden or on the beach.

Try it! Get your children, parents and friends to join you. Even just five minutes every day will make a difference in your health and stress level.

Radio interview

Click here to listen to a radio interview with the founder of BodyTalk, John Veltheim, explaining what BodyTalk is and how he came to develop the system. Many of you mention friends, family members or colleagues who are interested in BodyTalk. This would be a good introduction for them, so please share. Part one - Part two

John Veltheim in the UK

I have just come back from spending an amazing five days training with, John Veltheim. This was a great opportunity as he hasn't been in the UK for several years, and it is wonderful to be using the new ideas and techniques in my clinic already this week.

John updated us on the latest in the process of getting BodyTalk into universities - something that the International BodyTalk Association has worked on for about five years: From this autumn, Bodytalk will be taught at universities in Canada and Australia, and the European base at Steinbeis University in Germany will follow towards the end of the year. Existing and new BodyTalk courses will be combined and provide the qualification of Bachelor of Science. This is very exciting and a huge step for BodyTalk.

I also learned more about how BodyTalk utilises the laws of quantum physics and epigenetics, and how seeing health and ill-health in a broader perspective will help the healing processes and make us grow as humans. In case any of you are interested in references, some of the scientists and thinkers who endorse the BodyTalk System and whose work contributes to shape the BodyTalk System are: Elizabeth Rauscher, James Hollis, Hassim Haramein, Amit Goswami and Manjir Smanta-Laughton, James Oshman, Bruce Lipton and Michio Kaku.

Access training

I have started my training to become a BodyTalk Access teacher, training with the president of BodyTalk in Europe, Claudia Schembri-Heitmann. Once certified, I will be able to offer the one-day DIY BodyTalk Access course for everyone. I aim to finish the training towards the end of the year, and long term I am also keen to persue opportunities of bringing the tools of Access to poor communities in Africa or Asia.

Opening hours over the summer

My last day in the clinic before I go to Denmark for summer holiday is Monday August 1st. The BodyMatters clinic will be closed from August 25-31, but will otherwise be happy to assist you on phone or email with your bookings and questions while I'm away. My first day back the clinic is Thursday September 1st.

Events

Access in London: The one day DIY course, BodyTalk Access, will be taught in London, Regent's College, Regents Park, July 17th. More.

Access in Surrey: BodyTalk Access, will also be taught in Haslemere, Surrey on July 23rd. More.

Mindscape in London: An amazing course that will blow your mind aimed at therapists, athletes, businesspeople and anyone who wants to develop their creativity and brain performance. This weekend workshop teaches very applicable mind techniques leading participants to open latent intuitive powers, 19-21 August. More.

Module 1 & 2 Advanced Practical in London: This is a two day course for people that already have completed Module 1 and 2. More.

Module 1 and 2 in Hampshire: The foundation course for BodyTalk will be taught over 4 days 23-26 September in Hampshire. More.

Have a fabulous summer, and I hope to see you soon,

With love,

Britt X

Spring 2011

Dear friends and clients,

Spring is here and so is your Spring BodyTalk newsletter. In the Chinese cycle of the Five elements, spring is the season of the Wood element, which is all about growth, birth, movement, hopes and dreams, setting goals, planning, creating and developing ideas. You probably also sense the outward and upward movement everywhere around us - just look down at the ground and see myriads of plants springing to life.

If our Wood element on the other hand is not in balance, we find it hard to harness its power. This can lead to lack of ideas, lack of direction, lack of clarity of purpose in thought, and resignation (lack of anger to move you forward) or frustration (undirected anger).

In the body an unbalanced Wood element can manifest itself as problems with eyes (not seeing your path), pressure in eyes/behind eyes - headache, stiffness and strains in tendons (inability to move forward physically) and disturbance of body rhythms at all levels, such as digestion and menstrual cycle. These are common issues with which many people struggle during spring, and I see them reflected in many of my clients at the moment.

Learning, sharing and inspiration

I have just returned from two intensive courses. First, two days at the BodyTalk UK conference where colleagues from all over the country were gathered to learn, share and inspire. As always when I get together with colleagues I'm amazed by the many truly inspiring BodyTalk related stories out there - from extraordinary results with "ordinary" clients to working with race horses, school children and medical staff.

Afterwards, I spent two days on a course called BreakThrough. This programme taps into the healing nature of conflict. Within life's conflicts lies the potential for making peace with the deep-seated limiting beliefs that can wreak havoc in our lives. It is a profound experience that leaves you with the need for fewer defences in life, which I can now testify feels great in every way. More about BreakThrough

Giving Back

Spring is the time for new beginnings and there are also some new beginnings for me. I'm looking forward to starting work with an amazing charity called Kids Company, offering BodyTalk to people who wouldn't otherwise find their way into my clinic. Kid's Company is founded and run by the charismatic Camila Batmanghelidjh, whom you might have heard of, and they make an amazing difference to vulnerable children in London including children whose lives are affected by gangs, prostitution, drugs, early motherhood and poverty. I will be the first BodyTalk practitioner volunteering with them and have beimpressed to see how the charity embraces and recognises the benefits of complementary health. I'm excited about this opportunity (and so are they), and look forward to start helping out soon.

The Tap-Tap Company on Facebook

I have created a Facebook page for The Tap-Tap Company where I will be sharing bits and bobs of research, inspiration and events about health, consciousness and BodyTalk. If you go to the page and click on "Like" you will get the updates. Click here, or just search for The Tap-Tap Company in Facebook.

From the horse's mouth - sharing BodyTalk

I often hear many of you say something like "I know that my friend/colleague/family member really would benefit from BodyTalk. I tried to tell him/her about it, but I found it tricky to explain". If you get a little group together, I'd be happy to come out and give a free talk on what BodyTalk is and how it can help people. This could be with parents from your children's school, colleagues, neighbours or friends. You are also welcome to pass on my phone number (07726 604020) if anyone you know would like a chat about how BodyTalk can help them.

Also, remember that I am still offering a referral discount: Refer two people and your next session will be half price.

As a reminder, here is a list of common complaints that BodyTalk can help with: migraines, stress, digestive disorders/IBS, insomnia, back/neck/wrist/elbow/knee pain and stiffness, depression, anxiety, fertility, low immune system, pregnancy discomforts and allergies. More.

Events

Module 1 and 2 in London: the foundation course of BodyTalk is taught over 4 days at Easter in London. More.

Founder of BodyTalk in the UK: For the first time in several years John Veltheim will be coming to the UK this year. One course is open to everyone, and it is the amazing Finding Health: Mapping the Healing Process 8-10 June in Surrey. This weekend will be packed with cutting edge knowledge and research and it will revolutionise your view on what health is. Don't miss this unique opportunity if you are interested in health, either professionally or for yourself and your family. More

John Veltheim will also be giving a public presentation about the BodyTalk system on July 5th. He is a really extraordinary man and very entertaining. So come, come, come and bring your friends. More

Access in Reading: the one day DIY course, BodyTalk Access, will be taught in Reading on 22 May. More.

Access in London: The next one will be 17 July in Regent's Park College. More.

BreakThrough: In September there will be another chance to do the two day BreakThrough course with the Canadian teacher Terryann Nikides. It is an amazing tool for self discovery and as the person sitting next to me whispered by the end of the first day "I've gotten more out of today than the past year in therapy." More

Please let me know if you or someone you know would be interested in attending an Access course or a free introductory talk about BodyTalk, and I'll make sure that I email you personally when something it is coming up.

All for now, take care, enjoy the sunshine and I'll see you at the clinic.

With love,

Britt X

Autumn 2010

Hello, here is your Autumn Newsletter 2010 with news about BodyTalk, my work and the clinic. During autumn the Metal element is dominant in the Chinese cycle of five elements, and it is a good time for clear outs. It is time to shed things we don't need - just like trees do, and what better tool to help you dispose of physical, emotional and mental waste than BodyTalk?!

Latest Press Coverage

On September 5th the health Editor of the Mail of Sunday's You magazine featured BodyTalk. The journalist, who had been suffering with regular distressing migraines most of her adult life - the kind that required her to frequently miss work, had six BodyTalk sessions with me over six months and reported: "I felt much calmer afterwards" and "I get headaches less frequently now: if I feel one coming I find a quiet place to tap my cortices [the DIY technique that I have taught most of you]. This stop a migraine in its tracks, or make an existing one less intense. I don't know how it works, but it does". I am still seeing the journalist and expect that she will be able to let go of her headaches altogether soon. Full article here

Previous coverage: Daily Telegraph, 22 January 2010 BodyTalk: BodyTalk: Could a new therapy be the answer to all your aches and pains?

European Conference and The Science behind BodyTalk

I have had the pleasure of spending a weekend in Munich at the first European International BodyTalk Association (IBA) Members Conference recently. We were about 220 BodyTalk practitioners and instructors from all over Europe enjoying talks from the founder of BodyTalk Dr. John Velitheim and a number of other very interesting speakers for three days.

I also enjoyed hearing about the IBA's work into research, bringing BodyTalk to developing countries and deprived communities and its hard work on getting BodyTalk more recognised including the ground work for the BodyTalk courses becoming recognised and formalised into a university degree. BodyTalk has only been around for just over a decade, but has already spread to 40 countries and is taught in seven languages. The growth of the system is exponential and the next couple of years will bring as much growth and development as the first 15 combined - all due to its amazing results.

Much of the conference was dedicated to the science of why BodyTalk works, primarily explained by biophysicist and cell biologist Dr. James Oschman. The key word here is quantum physics. He believes that the biggest stumble block for bridge building between conventional medicine and complementary energy medicine is that physics isn't part of the curriculum at med school. Dr. Oshman: "We have left energy out of our medicine. When we ignore energy we miss 99% of reality and fact. What can you comprehend of anything without energetic? When we leave energy out of our bio medicine, we miss a vast amount of our healing potential, and we have been wearing blinders - using tunnel vision for 100 years."

BodyTalk Turbo

One of the things that initially attracted me to BodyTalk is the great emphasis on continuous learning for the practitioner. I have recently embarked on the next and highest level of BodyTalk training called the PaRama College. It is taught by John Veltheim the founder of BodyTalk and only about 10 percent of practitioners have completed it so far. The first unit - there are two - goes into great detail about the brain from a Western and Eastern perspective and introduces a set of new techniques to build much more advanced formulas and expanding the scope of practice.

The aim of all this time I spend studying is of course to create faster and more profound results in my client's health and wellbeing. Although it will take me 6-12 months to complete PaRama Unit 1, everything is applicable straight away as I go along, and some of you may already have noticed shift in the sessions with me recently - the first dose of turbo has been injection into my work.

Cortices - Handy Little Pocket Guide

I have taught many of my clients the simple DIY technique of tapping out your cortices to improve the communication between the two hemispheres of your brain and thereby create improved focus, reduced stress and promote healing. I know that many of you find this very helpful and use it regularly. However if you need reminding on how to do this, I now have a little pocket guide with a step by step explanation to give to you. Please let me know if you would like one next time you come, or indeed if you would like me to teach you the technique.

It is such a pleasure to see so many of you go through fascinating journeys into better health and wellbeing. I look forward to seeing you again soon at the clinic in Belsize Park. I will leave you with a couple of stories from my clients below here. (I'm always interested in case stories. Please let me know if you would like to share your experiences with BodyTalk.)

With love,

Britt X
